The UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship is one of the most spectacular forms of motorsport on water, bringing together the world’s leading personal watercraft riders in a competition where speed, technical skill and physical strength are equally important. Governed by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the championship features several disciplines, including Circuit, Parallel Slalom, Offshore, Endurance, Jet Raid and Freestyle.
The championship offers competition in several categories, with the best-known being Runabout GP1, Ski GP1, Ski GP1 Ladies and Freestyle. Runabout machines are the most powerful boats in the series, capable of speeds exceeding 170 km/h, while Ski machines are lighter and ridden standing up, demanding exceptional balance and physical fitness. Freestyle is perhaps the most visually spectacular discipline, with riders performing complex aerial tricks on highly modified machines producing more than 200 horsepower.
Circuit racing is at the heart of the championship. Riders compete on technically demanding courses featuring numerous tight turns and alternative sections. Other disciplines provide very different challenges: Parallel Slalom is a short, explosive head-to-head competition, while Offshore and Endurance races test both rider and machine over longer distances and demanding open-water conditions.
